Bio
You’ve reached the personal website of Jim Loney.
I’m a current Radio and Television Arts student attending Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.
My interests lie in technology and the people, processes, and policies that engage with it on a daily basis. In particular, I interpret technological change by wearing my own hat as a media producer trained in the television and new media realms. I am currently examining the the effects of wide area networks (both open and closed) and the effect they have on media consumption and production. I’ve spent quite a bit of time working with open source software to produce traditional media and then introduce it into non traditional spaces through such platforms as Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla.
I currently work at Ryerson University’s Rogers Communications Centre in the building’s New Media, Engineering, Research, and Development (NERD) Lab. Here I experiment with everything from open source video production workflows, to web design, internet protocol video (streaming), and internet protocol television (IPTV).
